With world famous destinations like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Akumal and many other hidden jewels in the Riviera Maya, one is bound to get confused. The biodiversity of the region is mind boggling and site for many of nature’s wonderful creations. One of such is the turtle. In total there are seven species of sea turtles in the world and six out of them are found in México.
The beaches around the Riviera Maya region are the nesting grounds for sea turtles. Every year the Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta Caretta) and the Green Turtle (Chelonia Mydas) come in huge months during the month of May to lay eggs on the shore. These eggs take about 60 days to hatch and once out, the little hatchlings scurry their way into the sea to grow up in some other land and come back to their place of birth to complete the cycle of life.
In one particular thread on Tripadvisor.com, a vacationer is interested in knowing out of Akumal and Playa del Carmen which is best place to visit for turtles. Undoubtedly it is Akumal as the names says it all. This opinion has been voiced by almost all of the fellow travelers who shared their valuable experiences on the travel site, tripadvisor. Also is a quaint and slow destination which is best for relaxations and rejuvenation.
