While Cancun has been always the #1 tourist destination in Mexico, it has now become the top destination in Latin America also. This is a great achievement as Latin America has several world class tourist destinations like Playa del carmen, Los Cabos & Puerto Vallarta. Conventions and Visitors Board (Oficina de Visitantes y Convenciones) has claimed that in the month of January, 2014 Cancun will have 90% hotel occupancy. Here are the other facts reported by the Jesus Almaguer Salazar, Director of the Conventions and Visitors Board:
1) Cancun has captured the top spot among the tourist destinations in Latin America owing to a increase number of arrivals and record occupancy in the December holiday season and first two weeks of the new year (2014).
2) Cancun is the preferred destinations for Americans and Canadians.
3) Domestic tourists are also showing greater interest in Cancun.
4) There has been a significant increase in arrivals from Europe and South America.
5) Hotel occupancy for January will be 90% which is 10% above the figure for January, 2013.
6) Cancun will be participating in the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, Spain, where 30 companies from Cancun will set up their stands to promote the various attractions of this destination and offering quality services to its visitors. This International Tourism Trade Fair will be held from January 22 to 26, 2014.
