Man Dives Deep To Propose Amidst Bull Sharks in Playa del Carmen

Proposal In Shark Infested Water

Love sure makes people do crazy acts. Michael Benson was on a scuba diving trip to Playa del Carmen along with her girlfriend when he popped the question.

The couple was scuba diving with Bull sharks when he gave her a diving slate board with his proposal. Michael has been preparing for a long time. He said in an email, “I started the plan months in advance when I convinced her to get scuba certified before we go to Mexico. She agreed and next thing we know we were in the YMCA pool. Two weeks later we were NAUI [National Association of Underwater Instructors] certified scuba divers. We had no clue what we were doing and Mexico would be our first time diving. We did two dives before I had the guts to sign up for the Bull Shark dive.”

While both love scuba diving Benson loves Dolphins whereas Rawls is a “shark junkie.”

“All I could think about was floating with my feet dangling in the water with sharks circling below,” he said. “I most certainly did this in the name of love.”

It was a complete surprise for the girlfriend. Benson further added, “I think being surrounded by sharks was the only thing on her mind”.

“I will admit that it was pretty high in my thought patterns also. I could not see her facial reactions but she had no problem communicating her excitement. Nobody else had any clue either. When they saw the sign they all started shaking my hand. It was really cool,” he said.

While we appreciate Michael’s feelings, we will recommend you to just stick with scuba diving and probably getting married in Playa del Carmen.

Playa del Carmen and Akumal are popular among scuba divers and snorkelers.
