There is a thread in Tripadvisor forum regarding wildlife tips in Grand Bahia Principe (GBP), Akumal. Akumal is rich in wildlife both land and aquatic. Akumal means land of turtles, so sea turtles are a must-see item in any itinerary.
One member replied that, even on the resort one can see wildlife. Animals such as Iguanas, Coatimundi, Agouti, Raccoon, Land turtles, snakes, beautiful butterflies and moths, pelicans, ospreys, woodpeckers, golden oriole, Yucatan jays. If you are lucky you may also get to see a deer or two also!
The USP of GBP is its wildlife. For marine life you can test its beach waters where you may encounter moray eels, rays, squid and octopus.
The resort also organizes eco-wildlife tours and jungle walk to educate its guests about the flora and fauna and how GBP is pro-active in conserving it.
